Updated COVID Guidelines for B'Nai Mitzvah Ceremonies

COVID Guidelines for B’nai Mitzvah Services (Updated 11/3/21)

1.The B’nai Mitzvah ceremonies will be held inside the sanctuary at the UU Center unless other arrangements have been made.

2. Our B’nai Mitzvah families may have to limit their guest list. Inside the sanctuary, the capacity limit is 110 people or 70 households.

3. We will ask people to sit in household pods with at least 6 feet of distance between pods.

4. We will require all eligible people to be vaccinated.

5. We will require Rabbi Katie, our musical soloist, and our clarinetist, as well as the B’nai Mitzvah student to have a negative COVID test within 24 hours of the ceremony. This could be one PCR test or a rapid test kit. After these negative results, these service leaders and the B’nai Mitzvah student can then remain unmasked during the service.

6. All guests and participants in the service will be required to wear masks during the ceremony. We strongly recommend and will provide KN95 or N95 masks.

7. Parents who wish to give their blessings for the B’nai Mitzvah student may do so unmasked if they have tested negative within 24 hours of the ceremony. (Or Shalom will not be providing these Covid tests.)

8. Families should provide a list of expected guests to Ben (ben@orshalom.org), as the SFDPH requires us to track attendance.

9. Or Shalom requests guests to refrain from coming if they have symptoms or have been exposed to COVID-19 positive cases. We also ask that the family contact Or Shalom to let us know if any guests subsequently learned that they may have been sick with COVID while at the ceremony. Please contact Ben at ben@orshalom.org.
