To Honor & to comfort series - Wednesdays

Five wishes, the “Go Wish” card game, Advanced Health Care
Directive, & POLST (Physician’s Orders for Life Sustaining Treatment)
We are encouraged by our health care providers to have certain documents in order, but it all seems so theoretical. How do I know what I will want? In this 2 hour afternoon session, We will clarify the differences and proper timing of the various documents. We will work in small groups with various resources and tools to help us grapple with the knotty questions of what makes for meaningful quality of life, a “ good” death, and how to do the best we can to insure that over which we have control.
(New Time, New Room: Sunday, 1:00-3:00 Social Hall)

In Jewish tradition, we do a ritual washing of the deceased before burial. Tonight, after a brief description of what is DONE in a taharah (ritual washing) we will read through the liturgy (with explanatory commentary) in the form of a play. All who attend will have an opportunity to play a part as a way of experiencing the depth of meaning and power of this ancient ritual. The cast includes: the Taharah workers, the deceased, God, the prophets Isaiah & Ezekiel, Rabbi Akiva, demons, angels, ancestors—-something for everyone. (Some costumes are available: halos, wings, horns, etc.) It’s profound and lighthearted at the same time. Sam Salkin, CEO of Sinai Memorial Chevra Kadisha will also be on hand to answer questions about how this all works in San Francisco’s community chevra kadisha.

Save the date! Or Shalom's Silver Anniversary Gala will take place on February 4th, 2017 at the Catherine Clarke Gallery in San Francisco. Please click here for more information and tickets
