Days of Awe 2020

The ten days between Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur (known as the "Days of Awe") are a time for reflection, teshuvah, and looking ahead. Please take advantage of these offerings for mind, body, and spirit.

Ongoing: The Fast I Desire
As part of our collective teshuvah, we offer many action items to do between now and Yom Kippur. Topics include: Sanctuary, Hunger/Safety Net, Racial Justice,  Climate Change, and important Democracy-related actions that were omitted from our first email.  We'll take time to reflect together about our experiences during our Yom Kippur service. All action items are listed in The Fast I Desire webpage.

Tuesday, 9/22, 7:00 PM: Prop 15 Presentation
Or Shalom has endorsed Proposition 15, the Schools and Communities First initiative. Prop 15 will close the giant loophole in Prop 13 that has allowed large corporations to shirk their share of property taxes for 40 years. It will bring $11-$12 billion a year to schools and other public services with absolutely no change in residential property taxes. Learn more by joining Or Shalom on Tuesday, September 22nd at 7:00 PM for a presentation with one of the leaders of the Prop 15 campaign. Invite your friends! Please register here for Zoom link.

Saturday, 9/26, 8:00 PM: Virtual Bonfire of Reflection!™
Or Shalom is partnering with Yeashore, Chabad of the East Bay, and Reboot for an evening of reflection around the virtual bonfire, with songs, stories, and teachings. In past years, when there was a real bonfire, guests were invited to bring something to burn as a way of letting go. This year, please have some paper, a pen with water-soluble ink, and a bowl of salt water. Together we will melt away those things we no longer want to hold onto. To get the link, RSVP to  yeashore@yahoo.com
