Adult Education
Or Shalom offers a variety of ways for adults to learn in ongoing groups and in special programs and events. Please check our Calendar for all dates.
Recurring activities include:
News Minyan discussions bring the wisdom of Jewish texts and traditions to bear on contemporary issues and events. Conceived as Torah study in reverse, the group starts in the present, using contemplative deep listening practice, and works backward to our ancient texts.
Considering God Salon gathers quarterly for intimate conversation about our relationship with the divine, whether or not we believe in God, and our spiritual practices within or outside of Jewish tradition.
Book Group meets monthly over dinner to discuss books of Jewish interest.
Lunch & Learn: A project of the Southside Jewish Collaborative, 3rd Thursday of every month, designed for people with flexible schedules who would like to come to the synagogue for a bite, learn with the Rabbis and socialize. The sessions are led by Rabbis Danny, Pam, Katie and Shana, and rotate among the three locations: Brotherhood Way (BIJ & Or Shalom), B'nai Emunah, and Ner Tamid. A light lunch is provided.
Thursday Zoominyan: Our weekly Zoominyan is a place for anyone interested in studying Torah to pray, share gratitude and examine the weekly Parsha in an open, warm, and encouraging online community. We welcome all levels of knowledge and people of all ages and backgrounds. This weekly Torah Study is lay-led and includes the Healing prayer and Mourner's Kaddish.
Join us every Thursday morning at 10:00 am via this Zoom link (Passcode: THURSDAY). Click here for our Zoominyan Siddur.
