Adult Education at Or Shalom

The News Minyan:

Rather than working from a Jewish text and building the bridge to current events, this group does just the opposite.  Using the tools of contemplative listening practice, we share the ways that the events of our time have impacted our lives.  Then, we learn Jewish texts that shine light on these contemporary issues.  Contact the office for more information.

Saturday Morning Torah Study – Ongoing 2nd and 4th Saturday of the Month:

Explore the ancient text in light of today’s values and events with Rabbi Katie Mizrahi at this lively text study and discussion session.  Currently scheduled on the 2nd Saturday of each month at 10am in the downstairs chapel and followed by a light kiddush.

Adult “B’nai Mitzvah”:

Did you miss out on the Bar/Bat Mitzvah experience when you were 13?  Would you like to learn how to chant from the Torah, feel confident in prayer services, and mark your connection to Judaism in a meaningful way?  If so, you may be interested in joining a small group of like-minded Or Shalomers learning those classic “Bar/Bat Mitzvah skills,” as adults.  Groups form periodically on the basis of demand.  Please contact Rabbi Katie if you are interested, (415)242-9992 x3 or Rabbi@orshalom.org.

Parents' Circle

Don’t just drop your kids off -- stay and learn!  Whether you have a tot or a teen, you are invited to join this circle of Or Shalom parents.  Each month we will gather to share and discuss issues, and learn with various experts and teachers.  We will gather each session at 10 am at Or Shalom (1250 Quintara Street) for coffee and schmoozing and open the circle at 10:30.  We will end by noon.  Please contact our office if you are interested (415) 242-9992 or admin@orshalom.org  We have scheduled the following sessions during Judaism School meeting times in the coming year.  All adults welcome:
