After the intense year of learning that culminates with the b’nai mitzvah ceremony, young Or Shalom members can deepen the friendships they’ve formed and continue their Jewish learning in the Teen Havurah.
The 8th- through 12th-graders meet on Mondays 6:00-8:00 p.m. Some attend every time, and others drop in when they can.
Or Shalom’s Teen Program (8th through 12th) has several components that teens can choose from to keep them engaged in the Jewish community through their high school years. There is a Social Justice program that continues the long tradition of repairing the world, with community service activities such as making sandwiches for the homeless, cleaning up beaches, and other activities; a Jewish value based activity program with one group for boys and one for girls, where there is a continuation of Jewish learning through field trips, games, discussions, and other activities, while supporting each person’s development as teens; and a paid teen leadership program where teens will be provided with training on problem solving, child development, classroom management, and leadership. The teens work with the teachers and help out in the classroom.
