8th/9th Grade Leadership Program at Or Shalom

(see calendar for program dates)

After the intense year of learning that culminates with the B'nai Mitzvah ceremony, Or Shalom teens can deepen the friendships they’ve formed and continue their Jewish learning in the Teen Programs.

For the 2017-18 school year, we created a new program tailored to the group’s interests, emphasizing experiential and service learning.

Study – Focus on Jewish ethics and Tikkun Olam

Service – Hands-on community service projects chosen and driven by the group

Socializing – Connect and engage with friends and community

Leadership Training – participants train to become madrichim (teen helpers) in the Bet Sefer school program (great resume builder!) -- please see attachment for information about this part of the program

Journey - End of Year trip that will reflect our year of learning

TEEN HAVURAH PROGRAM

Be a role model ~ Be a leader in your community!

Or Shalom’s Teen Program (9th through 12th) has several components that teens can choose from to keep them engaged in the Jewish community through their high school years. There is a Social Justice program that continues the long tradition of repairing the world, with community service activities such as making sandwiches for the homeless, cleaning up beaches, and other activities.  Our teens participate in a paid teen leadership program (Madrichim) which provide training on problem-solving, child development, classroom management, and leadership.

Students in the teen program gain leadership skills by working in classrooms under the guidance of the teachers; create age-appropriate activities; and support the school in special events and celebrations.

Journey - End of Year trip that will reflect our year of engagement.
