Annual Appeal 2017-18

Shalom Friends,

The harvest moon waxes low in the sky, calling like the shofar to bring our community together in prayer and celebration, calling us to the tikkun olam and tzedakah which will make our good intentions manifest in the year to come.  As we find ourselves in This Moment, the pause between the deep inner work of Yom Kippur and the joyous festivities of Sukkot, I find myself reflecting on the fruits of this past year and I want to invite you to help us realize our hopes for 5778.

This past year we proudly stepped forward as an unapologetic, progressive Jewish moral voice in a time when our national and global communities needed support, witnessing, and action.  Our new Tikkun Olam Committee and Action Groups have allowed us to harness this voice and create new relationships with each other and our larger community.  Even as we reached out with new strength and commitment, we continued to reach in, supporting and celebrating with members in times of joy and sorrow, educating adults and kids in the richness of Jewish life, and providing a rhythm of spiritual practice through Shabbat and holiday services all year long.

All of this is only possible when our community is robust from the inside.  Rabbi Katie Mizrahi is celebrating ten years as our rabbi this coming Simchat Torah, and without a
doubt her leadership has made us stronger as a community.  Together with the rest of the staff, she is leading the congregation into its most successful moment yet, one that is both financially sound and socially active.

Or Shalom's financial success is only possible because of the support of our community.  Financial contributions above and beyond membership commitments make up nearly twenty percent of our annual operating budget.  Your gift enables us to pay our hardworking staff, put together joyous celebrations, provide financial assistance for Bet Sefer School,  produce awe-some High Holy Day Services, and participate in external organizations aligned with our mission.

I ask that you continue to support Or Shalom through a gift to the Annual Appeal today.  You can make that gift here.

Chag Sameach,
Judy Olasov, President
Or Shalom Jewish Community
